Injection Molded
To injection mold a magnet has superior advantages in designing an optimized design as complex shape, mechanical tolerances and magnetic pattern has unlimited possibilities.
The method requires a customized mold tool for each magnet. The magnets can be Isotropic or Anisotropic depending on material required magnetic properties or alignment.
Sura Magnets are specialized in the field of injection molding of magnets and have long experience in 2-component molding.
Rare Earth magnet materials such as NdFeB, SmCo and SmFeN can molded as well as Ferrite material.
The magnet powder must have a binder to be able and be molded and polymers as PA6, PA12 and PPS is normally used.
The density of these magnets is lower compared to the magnets produced by sintering. This results in lower magnetic values.
Injection molded magnet technology
An injection molded magnet offers superior advantages when complex geometry, tight mechanical tolerances and customized magnetic patterns are required. The injection molding process allows magnets to be formed directly into optimized shapes, enabling high design freedom and consistent quality in large production volumes. Each application requires a customized mold tool, ensuring that the magnet is precisely adapted to its intended function.
Plastic bonded magnet design flexibility
A plastic bonded magnet is produced by combining magnet powder with a polymer binder, making the material suitable for injection molding. Commonly used polymers include PA6, PA12 and PPS, providing good mechanical strength and dimensional stability. Depending on performance requirements, an injection molded magnet can be manufactured as isotropic or anisotropic, allowing magnetic alignment to be optimized for the application.
Material options and magnetic performance
Injection molded magnet solutions can be based on a wide range of magnetic materials. Rare earth materials such as NdFeB, SmCo and SmFeN can be used, as well as ferrite-based alternatives. Compared to sintered magnets, a plastic bonded magnet has lower material density, resulting in lower magnetic values. However, this is often balanced by advantages such as corrosion resistance, lower weight and the possibility to integrate additional functions into one component.
Experience in series production
With long experience in injection molding and advanced two-component molding, Sura Magnets develops customized injection molded magnet solutions for demanding industrial and automotive applications. Each plastic bonded magnet is engineered to meet specific mechanical, magnetic and production requirements, ensuring reliable performance and efficient series manufacturing.
